Explorers

Explorers are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

The Explorer unit meets on a Monday evening.

Activities

Explorers get the chance to work with other Explorers in their District, not just their own Unit, so can take part in an even wider spectrum of activities. All our activities and meetings are based on what you as an Explorer want to do from looking at environmental issues, to local projects, or working towards hobbies and interests.

Various camps and activities are all offered on the basis of what you want to do. We are a truly Youth Shaped section.

We offer the full range of Duke of Edinburgh Award utilising County and District resources to ensure the expedition elements can be met. This ties into the Scouts Top Awards of Chief Scout’s Platinum, Diamond and Queen’s Scout Awards. In addition the Explorers are offered the opportunity of taking part in the annual Ten Tors event with training events at District level.

Explorer Scout Young Leaders are Explorers who volunteer alongside adult leaders in a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. They are a valuable asset to any leadership team and play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.
